《行星回收者》里有句台词是“你第一次仰望星空是什么时候？”
我还记得自己和别人第一次谈论星星。那是在英国读书的时候，既不是晚上也不是凌晨，和几个室友在狭小的厨房过道上。水正烧着，炉子上在煮意大利面。我还记得当时我端着一杯茶，三个人谈天说地。从英国哲学谈到宇宙空间。我们激动地谈论着三千公里以上，甚至更辽阔的空间里发生的事情。我们谈论着未知的生命，谈论着已经过去的文明。我们谈论着费米悖论，谈论着逝去的肉体与不灭的灵魂。
“如果宇宙中真的没有其他文明的话，为什么会有我们呢？”室友A激动的说。
我记得当时天空正亮，锅子里的水已经开始沸腾。白天看不到任何星星，英国的下午也许过半个小时就会下雨。我们谈到最后谈的口干舌燥，最后说哎呀谈论那么多最后还不是要回去赶3000字的paper。
但是我回到房间里，却迟迟不能平息下来。当时的谈论，一直影响到我，直到此时此刻。
我还记得在北京看《普罗米修斯》，看完之后朋友给我推荐了克苏鲁神话。她说莱格你应该去看一看其中一句话““我认为，人的思维缺乏将已知事物联系起来的能力，这是世上最仁慈的事了。人类居住在幽暗的海洋中一个名为无知的小岛上，这海洋浩淼无垠、蕴藏无穷秘密，但我们并不应该航行过远，探究太深。”当时我感觉心里好像被人放了一枪。正中红心。
1990年旅行者一号飞过海王星轨道，距离地球六十四亿公里的时候，卡尔萨根说服了nasa让它把相机转向地球，拍下最后一张照片，“最后看一眼家园”
他在照片背后写了一段话
That’s here在那里
That’s home那是我们家园
That’s us那是我们
On it everyone you love在那里,你爱的每个人
every one you know你认识的每个人
everyone you ever heard of你听说过的每个人
every human being who ever was在这世上存在过的每个人
lived out their lives 度过了自己的一生
The aggregate of our joy and suffering 聚集在这里的 是我们的欢乐和痛苦
Thousands of confident religions, ideologies 是成千上万的宗教信仰,意识形态

Every saint and sinner in the history of our species人类史上的每一位圣人和罪人
Lived here 都生活在这里
Like a mote of dust如一粒微尘
Suspended……in a sunbeam悬浮••••••在一束阳光之中
The earth is a very small stage地球是在浩瀚的宇宙背景之下
In a vast, cosmic arena 一个很小的舞台
Think of the rivers of blood想想过去的血流成河
Spilled by all those generals and emperors 那为帝王将相而流的血
So that in glory and triumph只为让他们在光荣和胜利中
They could become the momentary masters 成为瞬间的伟人
Of a fraction…… of a dot占有那一个小点中••••••那一小部分
Think of the endless cruelties visited 想想那无尽的残酷
By the inhabitants of one corner of the pixel图像里那一个像素点的某个角落的民众
On the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants 每天把这残酷施加到与他们没什么区别的
Of some other corner另一个角落的民众身上
How frequently their misunderstandings 他们为何常常误解
How eager they are to kill one another他们为何渴望杀死对方
How fervent their hatreds 他们的憎恨为何如此狂热
Our posturing我们在装模做样
Our imagined self-importance 我们自以为很重要
The delusion that we have some privileged position妄想着我们人类地位特殊
In the universe 在宇宙中与众不同
Are challenged by this point of pale light这一切 都因这泛着苍白蓝光的小点而动摇
Our planet 我们的星球
Is a lonely speck in the great不过是一粒孤独的微尘
Enveloping cosmic dark 笼罩在伟大的宇宙黑暗之中
In our obscurity我们默默无闻
In all this vastness 沉浸在无尽的浩瀚中
There is no hint that help will come from elsewhere没有一丝线索显示 除了我们自己
To save us from ourselves 还有谁能拯救我们
The earth is the only world known so far to harbor life地球是目前已知唯一有生命的世界
There is nowhere else 生命再无其他去处
At least in the near future至少在不久的将来 亦是如此
To which our species could migrate 没有外星球 供人类迁移
Visit, yes 只可参观
Settle, not yet不能定居
Like it or not不管你喜欢与否
For the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand现在 只有地球供我们立足
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling据说研习天文 可以让人谦卑
And character-building experience 塑造人心 磨练个性
There is perhaps no better demonstration也许再没有更好的方法
Of the folly of human conceits 能比这遥远的画面
That is distant image更好地显示出人类的自负和愚蠢
To me, it underscore our responsibility 对我而言 他强调了我们的责任
To deal more kindly with one another要对人友善
And to preserve and cherish 懂得珍惜和爱护
